Survive Your Hospital Visit
Medical mistakes in hospitals are linked to 440,000 deaths every year in the United States, according to Consumer Reports. That’s a terrifyingly high figure. Your selection of a hospital can genuinely mean the difference between life and death. If you’re injured by medical malpractice in a hospital or in any other Illinois medical facility, get legal help right away and speak with an experienced Chicago medical malpractice lawyer. Last May, Consumer Reports issued safety rankings for more than 2,500 hospitals in the U.S. including 71 Chicago-area hospitals. The facilities were ranked on five factors: infection risks, readmission rates, multiple scanning procedures, staff-patient communications, and mortality rates in the first month after hospitalization.
Ten Chicago-area hospitals rated highly, with scores of 60 or higher, and that’s good news. Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich received the highest local ranking, a 66. Five other hospitals received a 62: Adventist LaGrange, Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, Centegra in Woodstock, Central DuPage in Winfield, and St. Alexius in Hoffman Estates. Valley West and Rush Copley were ranked highest at avoiding medical mortality; Central DuPage was rated the best at avoiding infections.
Only 35 of the 2,591 hospitals ranked nationally received the top rating. If you’re injured in a hospital in Illinois because of a medical mistake – or in a doctor’s office, clinic, rehab center, or nursing home – you may be able to file a medical malpractice claim and receive compensation for your injury.
